In Memory

Brian O'Malley

A great Irishman, Brian Joseph O’Malley, has passed away. Many of you know Brian was dealing with cancer for over 18 months and always kept an amazingly positive outlook. Love you man. Slainte forever.

Yep, when I began working on the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, Brian was already on it, along with his cousin, Jim Glynn. We'd have a parade committee meeting at Ch 41, then adjourn to another meeting any of a number of neighboring water holes. Brian was true to his roots! May the good saints protect Brian, and bless him today, and may troubles ignore him, each step of the way!

Through grade school and high school spent countless hours playing basketball in the O'Malley driveway. Brian has been a great friend since Kindergarten. I'm very saddened by his passing. God bless Brian and his family.

Along with Paul, I was also one of the frequent flyers on the O'Malley basketball court/driveway.  One of my most vivid memories of my time with Brian involved heading to a NKC basketball tournament game one evening. With the future Doctor Niewrzel driving, Brian was in the front passenger seat and I was on the same side in the rear seat as we began to pass the Ray-South girls pep squad bus crossing over the Paseo bridge.  Not being ones to miss a golden opportunity, Brian and I decided to display our best sides to the occupants as we passed.  A couple of years later, I met my future wife, a Ray-South graduate, and eventually found out that she had indeed seen that display.  When our wedding date came around in May of 1974, there could be no other Best Man standing with me than the goofy, crass, hilarious, and definitely lovable Brian O'Malley!  God bless you buddy, and may God keep your family in His care.

Remember Brian through some crazy pix in yearbook ,but mostly several years later as he helped us with the adoption of our fist daughter, Colleen from Catholic Charities.  Was great to work with and AWESOME results!

Mostly recall him as a guy with a perpetual smile on his face and a great story to tell from a big Irish family!

Rest well, and blessings to your family!

Brian and I were brothers in law-of sorts. We both married Berney girls-sisters from Atchison, KS. A proud Irish family and cousins to Bishop Sullivan. We spent many a holiday among the families talking, laughing, reminiscing. Rest In Peace, Brian

Got to play golf with Brian at the reunion.  Never imagined that would be the last time I would see him

RIP Brian.
